For my use (on the front of my bike), Linear mode works best – otherwise the shot is too wide. With 5k, stabilization and the high bit rate, I can get great video and I can also pull awesome screenshots out of the video. Everything works for me. No real issues. Only wish GoPro offered a battery door with a usb power port (the 3rd party USB power doors for the Hero 8 do not fit).

I returned the Hero 8 after a few days of use. Even though it was good quality, it had app connectivity issues, overheating issues and battery wouldn’t last.
Hero 9 has somewhat fixed issues:
Battery definitely lasts longer (still not amazing but better)
App connects just fine now (no more can’t connect or can’t find device)
Does get hot.
I also like some of the new features like hindsight which saves you from recording many retakes (granted it still drains the battery). The ability of timewarp to go back to normal recording instantly. The 20MP stills are much better as well.

By far the most impressive GoPro I have ever owned. The 20MP camera functionality makes this great to bring to my kids sporting events and the 14.7MP frame grabs have been fun to pull out of the videos. I love the front screen and plan on buying a housing for any rugged activities. I have been playing around with the “Hindsight” feature (captures something like 30 seconds before you hit the button) at my kids baseball game which is really cool because I don’t need to record the whole game to find a good action shot or miss a spectacular play. By far one of the sweetest options. I am really looking forward to testing this out in the cold being it has a bigger battery that my HERO8. It is a little heavier than my HERO8, but I think the trade off is worth it for sure with the 20MP pictures and all the updates and battery life. Looking forward to getting some great video and pictures before winter.

I have gotten a new GoPro every year when the new models come out. This one and the 8 were the best upgrades for the money in my opinion. I really like the 9 however because it adds the front screen, better battery life, horizontal leveling combined with the image stabilization takes away the need for a gimbal. Only reason I have it a 4 is the increase in pricing. The offer less on their site, but with a subsription, which I used to have and I will say it’s not worth it. Should just be a set price.
Excited to see what media mod and interchangeable lenses bring to the table.

GoPro is offering the camera $100 cheaper on their website when buying with subscription, if I was aware of this information, I would not have bought via Amazon, as the subscription includes camera replacement and other features.
GoPro and Amazon must inform customers there is another buying option.

I bought the GoPro 9 for it’s listed feature of working as a webcam. Unfortunately, I’ve confirmed with their support that audio is not supported when used as a webcam. I’ve returned it for this reason. I’m sure it lives up to other features – but it’s use of webcam, if you need to use the internal mics, is not available.
