I have the full size Osmo and bought the Pocket for easier vlogging on-the-go. Pretty much fell in love with how easy it is to use. Where the full size Osmo takes a couple of minutes to go from off to on along and connected to your phone to use as a view finder, the Pocket takes five seconds. It’s crazy how quick it is and the viewfinder is a touch screen with a surprisingly functional menu. It shoots in 4K, slow-mo, time lapse, motion lapse just like the full size Osmo. Not all functions are available without attaching your phone, although most things are. One big thing is that it has no zoom.

For more subtle vlogging this is an awesome device. It’s hardly noticeable in public whereas the full-size Osmo is almost obnoxious when you have the phone mount and any microphone/lighting attachments on it. The built-in audio on the Pocket crushes the full size Osmo and its usable as-is for beginner level vlogging.

For video enthusiasts, this is the greatest thing since sliced bread. The steady cam feature works flawlessly. If you are walking with the unit there is still some slight up and down movement, but it’s still 1,000% better than than a standard video camera or iPhone. I’ve used it from a standing position and from a moving car and the video is absolutely smooth. The 4K video is crisp and sharp. There is no lens hood, so to prevent flare, I would avoid shooting facing the sun, but otherwise the exposures are great. I would recommend two accessories: a tripod mount and the controller wheel.

USB-C to Lightning adaptor that came with the bundle broke immediately after inserting to phone. Since bundle did not come with $59 bluetooth accessory I cannot activate this device because the only two ways listed in the manual to activate device are via lightning or bluetooth. DJI should include a USBC-Lightning cable which I believe would fix this situation. I now have a $400 paperweight that blinks “Device not activated.”

    UPDATE:
Once I separately purchased USBC-Lightning cable I was able to activate and after using for a few months it definitely has its place in my video toolkit. Video quality is very good for a pocket-sized device. Using with a phone is not convenient but it is excellent for when you don’t want to carry a bulky DSLR. Only 4 stars because there are a few issues that could be improved such as the ability to smoothly move the lens up or down while filming. It’s hard to beat for slipping something unobtrusive in your pants pocket at the last minute before you walk out the door while on vacation.

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.

Make sure you have a compatible phone to launch off with first. It is a mandatory requirement to sync/ register this cam with your phone. After you do so , you can use it without your phone. It’s just the initial set up that requires your phone. The camera is amazing. Can go up to 4K quality. I’ve noticed the sound quality is slightly diminished when you record in dim lighting, but I can’t blame it because it’s a small mic. Overall, the good outweighs the bad by far. I would buy this several times over. You get the same result if you were using equipment that cost thousands of dollars more. There is very little in the market that resembles the portability of the osmo pocket. It is extremely convenient when your on the go and want to capture extremely high quality footage. Carries internal battery and face reading that follows your motion. I absolutely love this, it’s hard to explain all the features and settings it has in this review. I was extremely impressed with the osmo pocket. And having tons of fun creating content

I bought this camera to experiment with at work – I’m a professional camera operator and am always looking for new and interesting ways to move the camera. Extreme agility at a high speed, while not having the image look like it’s footage of an earthquake has always been elusive. So far, this camera has proven itself promising. It’s certainly not going to take the place of higher end, professional camera systems and lenses, but it excels at allowing you to move the camera in ways and into places that a larger one simply can’t.

Users might find the onboard screen to be surprisingly small – roughly the size of a postage stamp. It serves as both the viewfinder and a touchscreen (when a phone isn’t plugged in) to control the device. I don’t know what DJI could have done, honestly. The size of the whole system only allows for a screen of a certain size. I do think they’ve done well to make the navigation of the menus easy enough to use considering the small size.

One design element I wish was better is the phone connector. It is interchangeable depending on your phone, but when mounted it is a rigid connector sticking out the side of the device. You then rotate your phone to landscape mode and plug the Osmo into the bottom of your phone. Your phone gives you access to settings you can’t get through the device alone, but this now makes the unit rather cumbersome. Those connectors were never designed to carry any sort of weight so when you plug your phone in to your Osmo, you are now forced to keep two hands on the system at all times. If you let go with one hand, the Osmo will either fall off the bottom of your phone, or your phone will fall off your Osmo – depending on which one you were holding. I have since purchased, and wish this was simply included, a long flexible extension cable that will allow the phone to be held separately, put in my pocket or backpack, or whatever. I should say that you can plug your phone in, establish the settings you want, and then unplug it and the settings will keep. It’s just a bit of an annoying process, especially for someone like me in a demanding environment.

Bottom line, for the price the design, performance, and functionality can’t be beat.
