We put this fan in a guest bedroom and ran it a day or two last summer and it was quiet. We had a guest arrive this week and ran it a day and it was quiet and now it has developed a loud clanking sound. This fan has now been run a total of about three days since the day we installed it and it is awful!!!

All the hassle to buy it, install it and now this!!

I did a lot of research on fans, with my most important quality being quiet. I did not want to hear a motor running. Depending on the height of your ceiling, you may need a downrod. I was putting it up on 10foot ceilings so I bought the extra downroad. I paid a handyman to install for me – it took him less than 20 minutes. This fan is extremely quiet. The only think I hear is the sounds of the blades moving air when it’s on medium or high. At low speeds you hear nothing. This also comes with a light. I ordered the LED bulb and at night, even when off, it seems to have a slight glow. The remote, which also needs to be ordered separately is easy to use. I love the fan, and would highly recommend.

My only criticism is that the “base” of the light kit comes preinstalled and so is in the way of the usual way to attach the fan blades. To work around it, there is a pass through hole in the base through which you must put your screw driver or drill for screwing in the blades. Also, the light kit glass or lens is held on with some odd broad flat plastic screw-in holders which are plainly visible like as if part of the visual design.

This fan is closer to the ceiling than its predecessor, but moves air just as well. So it makes my room feel taller at no trade off in function. Super simple look which I like, though the light cover being held in by three rubber circles is not a great look. We got over that fast. Overall, an excellent, quiet fan with sufficient light.

Maybe I always had trash ceiling fans before, maybe technology has gotten better, whatever the case may be, I was pretty astonished at how quiet this fan was. When I first turned it on, it was on its highest setting and the only noise was from the movement of air – not the hum I always found characteristic of a ceiling fan turning on. Having installed one as a test, I’m outfitting the rest of the house with this model.

I own several Hunter fans, all of them have some level of hum on low and medium speeds. This Westinghouse fan has almost no hum on any speed.. a really pleasant surprise if you are sensitive to hum like I am. It’s almost completely silent when operating, of course it generates wind noise on the highest speed, but that’s unavoidable. The LED dome light is about 3000K color and is dimmable without flicker if you install a remote kit that has dimming feature (not all do, but the Westinghouse remote kit does: Westinghouse Lighting 7787000).

This fan is not a remote controlled fan out of the box, but it works perfectly fine with an aftermarket kit like the Westinghouse Lighting 7787000 remote kit. Please note that the kit’s RF remote receiver that needs to connect with the fan is larger than a standard outlet or even an octagon box that the fan hangs from. The ceiling mount shroud for this fan is very small so it wont fit in their either like it might with some native ceiling hugger shrouds. You have to mount it outside the outlet box your fan hangs from- so that means it gets mounted inside the ceiling on top of the drywall. It’s not a problem as the remote is RF (Radio Frequency) not IR, but just letting you know in advance that it’s the only way to use the remote kit with this fan. Please set the DIP switches on the remote receiver and remote before burying it up in the ceiling drywall.

The LED light is provided via a row of LEDs mounted on a circuit board under the frosted globe lens. I have two 6″ recessed Halo LED downlights in the room where the fan is, they are set to 3000K color temp, and the fan’s LED color matches them perfectly. No dimmer included with the fan, just the standard on/off via pull chain. The remote kit I purchased(model number listed above) included dimmer function which works perfectly with this fan and the LED’s dim without flicker. The room size is 8’6″X11′ and the included LEDs give plenty of light for normal use. They would be insufficient if they were intended to be the only light in the room IMO, but that generally wouldn’t be the case for a fanlight anyway.

The 52″ 5-blade configuration supplies plenty of air movement at any speed. Minimal wobble and vibration right out of the box. Westinghouse does include a balancing kit (one evaluation clip and three permanent stick on weights), but it was not needed in my case.

The fan install kit did include some extra screws, nuts and washers. I am grateful for that as I did lose one blade mount washer when the screw fell to the ground when attaching the blade to the motor which was already mounted on the ceiling.

IMO this fan has a unique/expensive/classy look, I mounted it and already got complements from my family on it’s good looks the same day. It’s great for low ceilings as it will mount directly via shroud without using the included 4″ downrod. My upstairs ceilings are low at 7’6″ and the fan sits 6’7″ above the floor at it’s lowest point (the frosted globe). The lowest part of the globe is about 10.75″ from the ceiling if you mount it without using the 4″ downrod.

The only CON I can think of is that the included ceiling shroud is very small in diameter. If the cutout around your outlet/hanger box is not cut really close around the box you’ll have to do some caulking around the shroud to fill the gaps.

Overall I would give this fan a 9 out of 10 for it’s excellent price/quality value ratio!

I specifically purchased 2 of these units because they appear to be remote controlled. NOT TRUE. Once you get them out of the box you discover the pull chains, which are nowhere to be seen in any of the literature on the box or accompanying the package. Moreover, nowhere is it stated that there is no remote and the fan is operated by pull chains. Very disappointing, especially having paid an electrician to install them. Totally misleading advertising.

I did not install this fixture, but I did hear a lot–while it was being installed–that this is a piece of work. However, once it’s up, it’s terrific. I love the look. It’s quiet, it’s efficient, and it was the favorite of WireCutter.
