Very impressed for an automatic at this price. Other watches I own have large cases and I have a small wrist so I chose this as a discreet daily wearer. I’d read that the strap it comes in was poor (and it’s not great) so ordered a new Bond NATO at the same time. My only concern is on water resistance at 3ATM. Do I risk swimming in the watch as it’s very comfortable on a NATO and I’ve not taken it off to sleep in with this configuration. Spend around £20 on a NATO or Zulu from this site and make sure the hardware is a satin finish and you will very happy with the final Combi

This is an amazing little watch. I purchased this humble Seiko SNK809 just over a month ago. For the price, you are getting an amazing piece of kit. The 7S26c movement is great to look at (through the display back) and is build like a tank. These things can run accurately for years without a service.
This watch is also a strap monster. Looks amazing on almost any 18mm leather or NATO strap.

One major word of warning: Since purchasing this watch it has rekindled my love of horology. In the last month I’ve filled a 6 slot watch case and purchased countless straps. It really is like a gateway drug. Purchase at your own risk. Haha.

A very smart good quality watch.
The watch isn’t huge unlike other men’s watches that look ridiculous if you have skinny wrists like me so this suits.
It has a very quiet tick so if that annoys you this won’t as you can barely hear it.
The glass back is a nice touch that allows you to see the inner workings and the overall design is very nice.
The strap is comfortable, non scratchy and doesn’t irritate even on a hot day when you are likely to sweat more and the buckle allows you to quickly adjust the size if like me you swell in the heat.
I’ve found that the time gain is around 1 to 2 minutes a month but this is not a problem as the calendar is not chronological so at the end of the month the date needs to be amended depending on how many are in the month as it will just count to 31, the extra minutes can be pulled back when making this adjustment.
Overall a recommended purchase if you are looking for a smart automatic watch for a reasonable price.

Purchased this watch back in 2013, it had an easy first couple of years. Then wore it through US Army Infantry basic training. The watch never left my wrist, drug it through mud and muck, water, sweat, tears, banged it around on a tile floor whilst doing pushups. Broke a springbar putting on a rucksack once but that was an easy fix. Been wearing it the last 2 years in the Army, It’s been really cold, and really hot, swam with me on numerous water survival tasks, jumped off high dives and zip lines into a lake, it’s been on my wrist jumping out of planes and helicopters at 1500ft. I don’t know what people are talking about “splash resistant” this little seiko has been on my wrist for the combat water survival assessment at least 15 times. Small enough that it doesn’t get in the way of gloves or long sleeve shirts. Spend the 50 bucks, stick a nato strap on it, beat the hell out of it for as long as it lasts, then buy a new one. I’ve been brutalizing mine for 4+ years and it hasn’t skipped a beat.

I love it! Rather than say “price”, I will say “value”. It is an incredible value. Probably about the lowest priced Automatic (non quartz/battery) you can find.

I was interested in getting the Hamilton Khaki Field Officer Handwinding watch for around $275. While looking around for a good price, I stumbled upon this, the Seiko, and felt it would satisfy my curiosity at a good bit lower price.

It arrived fast. I was immediately impressed with the packaging. It comes nicely packed in a nice Seiko box. At this price, I really expected no frills, like maybe a bag or envelope of some type. Also, I was struck by the overall appearance. If someone told me this was a $200 watch, I would believe it. It doesn’t look cheap at all. It looks like a strong, sturdy, well made, good quality item.

The face struck me as somewhat overly crowded and busy, though interesting with different numbers and lines going every which way. I can easily read the time on it though. The hands are bold and clear.

I love the 37 mm size. As an older dude, the big watches of today are just too much for me. This is a great size for me. For a moment, I felt it was a little bit “blocky” or thick but that quickly passed, and I guess it needs the depth to accommodate the automatic movement.

Speaking of which… I read a bit about this online and understand this movement is used in many higher priced Seikos. The reviewer said it was superior to what he sees in other low priced automatics.

The crown is of note. It is not in the middle but off center and small. Sometimes, big crowns jut out and can kind of dig into my wrist. So this is very comfortable.

The brushed steel is rugged and apropos for this watch and it’s military design. It is really quite understatedly handsome.

I love the band. Though a simple piece of material, it is somewhat reinforced around the eyelets, but best of all, it fits my thick wrists comfortably. And because it is cloth, it has some give and everything combined make for an extremely comfortable feeling watch.

When I took it out of the box, it immediately started working, ignited by the little bit of movement of simply removing the watch. I know it sounds weird, but I was fascinated at seeing the second hand glide around the face so smoothly. It seemed so much cooler to me than the way the second hand moves on my Quartz watches.

It has stopped running a few times, but never when it was being worn. I may not have worn it long enough to keep it wound up and running.

I am concerned that about 10% of the reviewers cite bad experiences with the watch. That is not acceptable to me. Even though it is not high priced, I still expect some reliability and durability. Then again, I don’t know if that is realistic in an item at this price. Too bad, because it’s a honey for the money…

Owned 8 months, and wore about once a week as my “dress” watch. Really liked it – nice fit and finish. As the watch requires movement to stay active, my infrequent use meant the winding mechanism would not be constantly active. The instructions tell the owner to gently swing the watch from side to side to refresh. In doing so last week, the second hand fell off. I’m really careful with my belongings, so this did not happen from over vigorous shaking. In trying to call Technical Support, I got a message saying they would be closed in observance of Memorial Day (a holiday that was weeks ago) and no option to leave a message. My high school graduation gift in 1972 was a Seiko, and it still works. I don’t know what happened to Seiko standards, but this was really a disappointment.

UPDATE: In August of 2019, still within a year, Seiko contacted after sending the watch back in as defective. The repair estimate, including return shipping, was $151.45. The response reported the watch is out of warranty – after 8 months of ownership. Based on my experience, I recommend DO NOT BUY.

This is my second one. I lost the first after one of the spring bars fell out, for the second time. They tend to pop out rather easily.

This second one is now broken, after a month of use. I went to set the time and the hour hand moves, but the minute does not. You can feel the mechanism catch and it will move a few minutes, but then stop. There is something damaged internally.

Seiko customer support is non existent. I sent an email to them two days ago and haven’t received a response.
They state on their website that they won’t honor a warranty if purchased online, they require a dealer to complete the warranty card.

Luckily Amazon has their own warranty, so I’m returning it under that.

I can’t recommend buying this watch, or any seiko for that matter. Horrible warranty policy.

    !st impression post.
The watch just arrived. Unsurprisingly, but gratifyingly, it was running, proving that the automatic winding works, and the watch functions.
Setting the day/date was straight-forward. I did miss the hacking function, but was able to set it to within 5 sec of the correct time without serious difficulty.
The band, which has been criticized in other reviews is a plain-jane, but perfectly respectable nylon strap with reinforced holes. It’s not a dress strap, but this isn’t a dress watch. I do note that it fits quite snugly, and may be difficult to change.
Updates will follow; I do have a watch winder, so will not have the problem others have with the short power reserve.

    Update 1.
I have now had the walk for a week. I have replaced the original nylon band with a Milanese stainless steel mesh band (US$27.99 from StrapCode), which makes the watch look much more impressive. Over the week that I have had it, it has lost about 20 sec per day, which for a non-regulated, non-chronometer mechanical watch is certainly tolerable. I am feeling better and better about this purchase, but will continue
to watch it’s performance, and will give a further update in a couple of months.

    Update 2.
I have now had the watch for just over 2 months. It continues to run reliably a little slow (about 20Code sec/day). I continue to enjoy how it looks and wear it quite regularly. It is now on a perforated leather strap, also from StrapCode, which suits the sporty look of the watch better than the Milanese steel mesh. I remain very happy with this purchase, and have no hesitation in recommending this watch to others.
