I have had two Expedition watches in my life and that says a lot because I am 55 , this is a cheap excuse for the watches that I have previously owned .just took it off my arm on the second day and the strap broke andIndiglo light doesn’t work ! guess they don’t make them like they used to ……..

This watch is really good , it ticks nicely , keeps time well , and has a really solid casing. It feels like it’s been put together well and doesn’t rattle at all. Even the mineral glass on it is alot more scratch resistant than my Swatch irony and my vostok komanderskie ( given that one uses acrylic ). The straps that come with it are comfy , but i prefer to use leather straps on it as it’s a classy looking watch and I already own a diver for a sporty look.

All this is good ;however, this watch has one thing that maybe a no no to some people . It basically ticks really loud and it can be audible in a quiet room . I live in a dorm and if the watch isn’t in a box I can hear it tick , which can get annoying if you’re trying to sleep .

If you really want the watch for the time keeping and durability , then get it and get yourself a watch box or something that can dampen it’s noise at night so you can sleep in peace.

For its price , few watches compete with such quality or have a long heritage like Timex does. As a result , if you appreciate watches and want it for yourself or a gift , this is the perfect watch as a daily beater or a friendly gift gesture.

    UPDATE :

I recently bought it NATO straps , and the ticking sound somehow dissapered . It might be the fsbric padding stopping the watch from making loud ticks. So , it’s an easy fix it seems.

After having this watch for several weeks now and reading several poor reviews before I purchased I thought it was time for my personal experience with this watch. So far it has been a very positive experience. I’ve had no trouble whatsoever with it. It keeps great time, the band is very well made and comfortable, the hardware has held up to daily wear and the Indiglo feature works great. I read in some negative reviews that the Indiglo feature stopped working after a few hours to a few days. That has not been my experience. I’ve beat this watch in my everyday work life and everything still works as normal. I also read several reviews that complained about the dark area in the Indiglo feature at 6 o’clock on the dial. That is normal and part of the design of the feature. It in no way interferes with the function of the Indiglo. I also read some negative comments about the strap becoming frayed at the holes and edges. I have a simple fix for that. Take a lighter and singe the holes and the edge of the band and you will not have anymore frayed edges. For the money this is a well made rugged watch. If you are on the fence it is my experience that this is a great value and no worries should be given to the negative comments you read. Besides, if there is a problem Amazon will make it right. Good luck and buy with confidence.

Great looking watch and fits the bill. Own a Rolex and wanted a smart looking watch I can wear if there is a risk of damaging the Rolex – biking or other outdoor activities.

Its very comfortable but found the strap a little tricky to put on and take off, I put it down to being new and will ease over time. Also not use to this type of strap.

A few minor gripes, the Indigo light can be easily activated when extending your wrist (Activated by holding down the crown). No screw down crown and not sure how robust it will be. Finally Indigo light does not extend to the full watch face, small section not lit at 6, see photo. Heard others mentioning it and doesn’t bother me.

If you like the style of the watch, you can’t go wrong for the money.

All I was looking for here was an inexpensive watch (cheap enough that I wouldn’t have to feel too bad when I broke it though abuse) that looked reasonable and kept adequately good time. This watch certainly was cheap and does look very reasonable, in fact it exceeded my expectations on this front. The face is legible and attractive, the proportions pleasant, and the backlight really superb. The nylon band is pretty grody-looking after four weeks of working construction with it on my wrist, but you’ll have that. However, the timekeeping is awful. Out of the box it ran a little bit slow, maybe a minute a day. By the end of the second week it was five minutes. Three weeks in, it’s in a death spiral, losing over 20 minutes yesterday. Today it has lost 5 minutes in the two hours I’ve been awake. I checked out the warranty service from Timex and they want $8 as a “service fee,” on top of the postage cost to send them my watch. Timex, I hate to tell you this, but charging your customers for repairs is outside of the normal definition of “warranty.” To me, warranty means an assurance that if there is a problem with the merchandise it will be remedied at the seller’s expense.

I really liked the watch when I got it. My old Timex watch had died after years of use so I replaced it with this one. I liked everything about it, easy to read, great glow, perfect size, and nothing shiny.

However, on the first day wearing it out, the crown (the knob used to set the time) fell out. Thinking this was just a fluke, I exchanged for a new one. Then the replacement’s strap clasp broke on the third day of wear, even before I shipped the old one back.

I’m really disappointed because this is the only watch I can find that has all the features I was looking for.

Great looking watch and I wish it worked. I like the style, the band, the case, etc. It’s exactly what I was looking for, however….

First watch arrived in what appeared to be used condition. While the outside shipping box was in perfect shape, the timex box inside the bigger box looked like it had been opened and the watch was not on the plastic pedestal that comes with the packaging. Upon inspection the watch date and time were already set to eastern standard time; further inspection revealed the illumination feature was broken. I assume this was returned, not inspected, and resent out to me on accident. I contacted amazon, sent the watch back, and they mailed me a new one on a rush order.

Watch #2 arrived in perfect shape. It was on the pedestal and it had a little plastic guard on the stem between the crown and the case which was a promising sign! On Day 2 I noticed the date was off by one day so I assumed I set the watch up incorrectly and didn’t have it on the right cycle for am/pm. Fast forward a few days later and now the watch isn’t holding time. Today it is 30 mins slower than the actual time. While I am not sure when this happened I know it happened within the past 24 hours.

It really makes me question if these are legitimate Timex watches or if they are knock offs?

Timex Men’s TW4B04700 Expedition Scout Green Nylon Slip-Thru Strap Watch

I loved this watch to death when I got it. I was obsessed with the aesthetic, and to make things better I didn’t even know there was a backlight feature to see in the dark until after I bought it!

However, the reason it’s rated 4 stars instead of 5 is because I had to keep readjusting the time more frequently than I would have really liked. Not noticeable at first, but the longer you have it, the quicker it becomes out of sync with the correct time. Eventually, the hands just stopped working, or would freeze for random amounts of time.

In conclusion, for the time that it worked correctly (let’s estimate a year or so, minus maybe a few months) it was phenomenal, it just didn’t last nearly as long as I had hoped.

I have been looking for a watch like this one for a while now. One of the things that occurred to me when looking at the watches I have bought in the past is that they are looking less and less like a watch and more and more like a supercomputer that can track pressure (not very well), temperature (not very well), where north is (not very well) but actually have no numbers on them and tell the time (not very well). Indeed most watches don’t have 1-12 on them. So when you are being active (rowing, sailing, running etc.) or even just driving and want a quick look at the time, this watch is superb in having 1-12 (and 13-24 for those that can’t add up) in nice big numbers. The face is exceptionally easy to read, the hands easy to see, the second hand picked out nicely in orange. The bonus of showing the date helps. What I wasn’t expecting however, because I didn’t read the description carefully enough, was the indiglo night-light which is activated with a simple touch of the crown. This is such a blindingly obviously sensible way of adding a light without having to have another button, I am amazed that I haven’t seen it on watches before. However all of the above would make for a 5 star rating, but the piece de resistance is the comfort. I put this watch on and actually went to bed and forgot I had it on, and woke up and forgot I had it on. The strap is very comfortable and the watch weighs next to nothing so it truly doesn’t impact on your comfort. I think Timex have got this 100% perfect.

As a child I was always slightly envious of the few spoilt kids with their Indiglo illuminated watches compared to my fave casio f91w, even thought mine was a digital watch, the faint putrid green hint – that never quite illuminated the dial enough – was always slightly underwhelming. The indiglo feature in comparison is a breath of fresh air, and all these years later when I saw this on offer just before xmas I simply had to spoil myself and get it. Now I spent far too long just showing everyone how bright and even the illumination is, making the face so easily readable. Of course, the response I generally get is ‘who uses a watch to check the time in the dark, that’s what phones are for’, but I don’t care, I love it. If only all childhood dreams were so easily achievable eh! 🙂
